Accident Eureka, NT. 79-59. 85-49W. 20-Jan-1973. Following takeoff flames came from the rear baggage compartment. The pilot turned back for a landing and radioed for help. As the aircraft stopped the three occupants vacated the aircraft and awaited arrival of fire fighting equipment. Aircraft suffered substantial damage. No injury to two crew and sole passenger.

Accident: Chevak, AK, 29-Mar-1990 Crashed landing after a flight from Bethel - badlydamaged - but later repaired, The scheduled flt depd Bethel, AK, with a weather dispatch release. When the flight reached the destn (Chevak, AK), the station manager (a non-certified weather observer) advised the flight crew to not attempt a landing because the weather was not good. According to the flight crew, however, the fog was not obscuring the runway & they elected to make an approach. According to the pilot in charge, a high sink rated developed on short final & he did not apply power. He believed the landing flare would have arrested the sink rate. However, the aircraft landed hard on the right main gear, causing it to separate & damaged the right main wing strut. The right wing settled to the surface & the aircraft yawed to the right and, veered off the runway & was further damaged. The load manifest did not comply with 14 cfr part 135.63(c) or the company's operations manual. The 2 crew and 13 passengers were uninjured. The aircraft was badly damaged but later repaired.
